Simple rule of thumb I've learned is once those cans begin to rust. I just replace all of them. Saves me the headache of going down the road and one of them going out.

Honestly I would replace the half can with the diaphragm. I just replaced the diaphragm today only to find out it was the can inself that was leaking. Replaced the can. Boom all fixed. So Honestly this wouldn't work all the time.

Your air hammer is your best friend when trying to get an old worn clutch to move.. Usually three cogs, and you have to bend your tab so it will catch.

Sooo the noise was the transmission. The rears were fine waste of time. There is no 2050, only 1800. The rating is just the oil system, not the gearing. Scammed

From what you are describing it sounds like 2 teeth are broken off of the ring gear hard to inspect it good with out pulling diff. Pinion makes contact with 2 teeth while spinning. Generally one tooth could be broken for years and never know. Once the second consecutive tooth breaks you might get gear jump like you are talking. Then shock loading issues. Was almost sure it was a ring gear when I started watching. Was off my rocker when you didn't pull the diff to check ring gear. I'm a belly dumper so soft ground and broken diffs are just part of the game. Most of the time for us it is a broken ring gear or spider gear.

I would have figured that 1800 rated box would have held up. I've pushed those torque ratings quite a bit. I've run some Mack Quad Boxes like the TRQ7220 at probably close to double, I've pushed 900 rated roadrangers pretty hard too

I'm a CAT mechanic and I do engines and transmissions all day long. That input gear wouldn't eat its own teeth like that because of high torque output. Whoever rebuilt your 18918b didn't properly seal the input gear with proper bearings and that's what led to the teeth being eaten out. They are upcharging on 20918b, selling them for $7500 echange and wonder how much they charged ya. ALSO, i would suggest you remove the PTO cause it would cause less stress on your transmission. Keep on trucking !

He went in blindly - Brave enough soul but not necessarily best way to go - Use a couple same size bolts a few inches longer with the bolt heads cut off and you can slide it off at your own leasure - I did it eons ago with a Munci M22 Rock Crusher all aluminum body close ratio 4 speed when I was a teen - Entire tranny weighed about 70 lbs and I was able to lay it on my chest and roll it to the side - Big trucks are a whole different animal but a lot of the principals are cousin like or even the same sometimes

Thx for sharing, I’m currently restoring a 20 ton tag along trailer especially the brakes and single brake chamber I could tell that the existing push rods have been cut inconsistent. How do I cut the new push rod so they are done correctly ? I noticed the single brake chamber have no caging system or come with caging bolt. Do I need to air the system before I measure and cut the push rod ? Thank you
